Message from the Education Council Chair

Welcome to the newly designed ASTRO School of Radiation Oncology Web site. We invite you to explore the many new features available through this site to enhance your continuing medical education.

Continuing medical education is a primary mechanism for pursuing the fulfillment of both the Society's mission and vision and, as such, is an essential core activity of ASTRO. The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology's mission includes providing opportunities for educational and professional development to our members. To accomplish this goal, the ASTRO School of Radiation Oncology was formed in 1995 to expand ASTRO’s educational mission beyond the Annual Meeting.

One of the main focus areas of the newly renovated site is to provide radiation oncologists with the educational tools needed to meet the American Board of Radiology’s Maintenance of Certification plan. You can easily access lifelong learning programs, self assessment modules and ASTRO’s newly developed practice quality improvement program. In addition, we have added resource links for additional information on MOC and recertification to keep you informed and up-to-date on changes in CME and MOC requirements.

If you have questions or comments regarding the new Web site, please contact us at education@astro.org. Your feedback will help us as we continue to build and improve the site.

Message from the Senior Director of Education

ASTRO is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide CME to physicians. We take our role in lifelong continuing education seriously and we are committed to providing relevant high-quality programs and products to enhance knowledge, apply innovations in the clinical setting, influence physicians clinical behavior and promote optimal patient care.

Today, ASTRO is recognized as a leader in continuing medical education. Our Annual Meeting is undisputedly the premier educational event for radiation oncologists. We are actively involved in the multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment through our involvement in multidisciplinary, disease site-specific symposia. We produce several live meetings throughout the year and continue to build our online educational library.

How do we do this? ASTRO is rich in educational resources. We enjoy and benefit from the world’s finest radiation oncologists who work endlessly volunteering their time and sharing their knowledge through their participation in our Society. We have a dedicated professional staff working with leaders and volunteers to ensure we meet the educational needs of our members. We learn from you, the membership. Your feedback is essential to help us better understand your needs, measure our effectiveness and make appropriate changes in programming.

To suggest future ASTRO educational programs or to comment on our CME and MOC programs, please contact the ASTRO Education Department at education@astro.org.
